In the city of Yoro, Honduras, it literally rains fish. Known as ‘Lluvia de Peces’, this phenomenon has occurred annually for over a century.
The Scientific Theory
Meteorologists suggest that waterspouts—tornadoes over water—suck up small fish from the ocean and deposit them over the city. However, the fish found are often blind and not from local waters, leading to deeper mysteries.
The Miracle Legend
Locals believe it’s a miracle from Father José Manuel Subirana, a 19th-century missionary who prayed for three days to end the hunger of the people. Shortly after, the first rain of fish occurred.
